Healthcare New Construction

Baptist Healthcare Pensacola’s Brent Lane Campus Gresham Smith

Baptist Health Care Pensacola’s Brent Lane Campus is the new home for the Florida panhandle’s only not-for-profit health system, which was still operating from their original hospital building, built in 1951. The new medical campus includes a 264 bed hospital and medical office building. The brownfield site was rampant with massive live oaks, some over 200 years old. Instead of clear cutting the site, the design team proposed to organize the entire campus around the groves, creating a community health park called the “town square”.

Initially, hospital staff were posed the question, “What does Pensacola mean to you?” The overwhelming consensus was that people primarily associated Pensacola with its stunning nature and unique history. For the new hospital campus to feel rooted in the community, it had to reflect the qualities that resonated most with the population it serves.
